UWF at St. Mark is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to participate in global ministries of the church.
UMW Announces New Name to United Women in Faith
In the 150 years since we began, our organization has had more than 25 names, each reflecting varying states of the church, society, and women’s lived experiences. We’ve been “Ladies,” “Woman’s” and then “Women’s” societies, associations, guilds, and circles.
Now we are again taking a new name to better reflect how we answer our calling to faith and action today: United Women in Faith (Response Magazine)
The new website can be accessed by following this link: https://uwfaith.org/
A great podcast for discovering what is happening in the organization can be found at this link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/united-women-in-faith-faith-talks/id1474218059 I encourage you to check out this podcast, as it is inspiring, enlightening, and uplifting; and admittedly sometimes disturbing.
It is my belief that our name is not the cornerstone of what we are about. Our mission, our work is about uplifting women, children, and those who are underserved in our community and around the world. We will respond to the same challenges, meet the same needs, love the same people as we have done all these many years.
We may be now the UWF, but we will always be united in our love of God and our commitment to serve his children.
Respectfully,
Donna Maloy
St Mark UWF President
UWF Circles
Only in small groups within the church can we really fellowship on a personal level with other Christians. Joining one of our circles is a great way to connect with other Christian women, have fun, grow in your relationship with the Lord and find new avenues of service together. In addition, we have all the UWF circles meet together for an annual retreat, a cookout each summer and a Christmas dinner.
There are three different circles that make up the United Women of Faith at St. Mark UMC:
The Friendship Circle meets on the second Sunday of each month
The Joy Circle meets on the third Tuesday of each month
The Rose Circle meets on the third Thursday of each month
The circles are not divided by age groups; we would love for you to visit any one that fits your schedule. Please call the church office at 865-588-0808 or send us an email message at office@stmarkknox.org for more information. Our purpose: The organized unit of United Women of Faith shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.
Special Projects
Our special mission project is the WesleyHouse. Therefore 10 percent of all proceeds from the yard sale and the Holiday Bake and Decorate sale will be given to support their efforts. Several afternoons during the week you will find us tutoring neighborhood children.
